Chick-fil-A is a company built on the principle of family.  Today, Truett Cathy’s entire family is involved in the business with older son Dan Cathy serving as president and chief operating officer and younger son Don “Bubba” Cathy as senior vice president and president of the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House division.

Excerpts from Chick-fil-A® Founder Truett Cathy's Book:
Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People (Looking Glass Books, 2002).

Truett Cathy on Family...

“We realize the importance of taking care of our Operators’ families.  That’s a secondary reason why we close on Sunday – so team members can count on at least one day a week devoted entirely to family, worship, and personal pursuits.  This is one of the most important principles we live by: The family must come first.”

“My policy has always been to share my business problems with my family.  It’s uplifting for me to know that our children are praying for me about a business decision I must make. I also hoped that if I shared my problems with them as children, that they would share their problems with me and let me help them when they grow older.”

“We were all a family working together, for us family, business, and church weren’t separate aspects of our life.  They all blended together.  Those early experiences shaped our children’s viewpoints about life and work.”

“Our children have committed to protecting and building upon what we have created, nurturing and caring for it, glorifying God, not seeking praise for themselves, and caring for the customer first.”
